helloooo....

Ash Stymest!
A recent addition to Models 1, Ash has already appeared in the premiere issue of Japanese Vogue Hommes (photographed by Hedi Slimane no less), i-D, Wonderland, Another man, and Dazed and Confused. He also found time to walk in the Balenciaga Spring 2009 show...

Stymest is joining the ranks of male models that are gaining success from having ink such as Josh Beech and Cole Mohr. And he's only 17!! Wow that makes me feel so old...

His face is currently gracing the interiors of topman stores in giant photos everywhere. I'm not complaining.

Coco immortalised...sort of



The Rootstein Display Mannequin Company who previously made likenesses of other fashion stars such as Agyness Deyn and Twiggy have made miss Coco her very own mannequin.


The company have been remodelling the classic mannequin since the 50s, when they decided that mannequins needed a chic'-er alternative. The most amusing part is that the creators had to dye the mannequins hair the night before the unveiling to co-ordinate with Coco's new red 'do!

Personally, I'd either be very flattered or very creeped out!

Model behaviour

I realise I've been youtube-ing a lot recently, but with quality like this knocking about how could I resist?
Speaking of Gemma Ward, I feel she has dropped off the radar a bit of late. She hasn't been in any of the recent season's shows or in any magazine spreads come to think of it. Perhaps she is persuing her acting career..? I have to say, I did watch Black balloon and as difficult as the issues were that it dealt with, it was handled very well and she gave a very genuine performance. Even so, it's a shame if she has given up modelling...

Where to being?! I firstly apologise for what will be a LONG post...

My weekend began with a traumatic dash across London to get to my 12 o'clock train. The train into central was delayed, then the underground line I needed to get was suspended because someone had set off the fire alarm (thanks for that by the way, whoever that was...). Then I had to beat through the midday Saturday Christmas shopping crowds to change to another line to get to the train station (at this point I had like 45 minutes to get to the other side of London). I seriously could just hear the mission impossible song in my mind as the clock was ticking! I eventually managed to negociate my way onto the right tube, albeit slightly battered from lugging my suitcase up and down about 50 flights of stairs. Then, when I finally made it to the station, my train was departing from the FURTHEST platform possible. I pelted it across the station and motored it down to the furthest carriage on my train and only just made it at 11.54 (!).


After all that fun and a 2 hour train journey I finally arrived in Birmingham. The highlight of which was (holy cow!) this giant bull made from jelly beans.

Sorry about the blackberry camera, but ah well...

This leads me to the day after, and the point of the trip-the clothes show live!
The first thing that was slapped in your face as you entered was the Paris Hilton stand. Firstly, when did Paris Hilton have a stand at the clothes show? Second of all, who had the idea of go-go dancers in leather hotpants whipping on and off wigs all around it?? Seriously the oddest thing ever.



I got my shop on for a bit, and found this amazing hat.


Then I came across the Designer stage, and: my oh my.

First up was Dolce and Gabanna, showcasing their 'Helen Mirren in "The Queen"' inspired collection, based around tweeds, tartans, paisleys and traditional knits. It was good but nothing mind-blowing, although the finale dresses were an unusual shape and contrasted textures interestingly.



Next up was Burberry. The shoes really complemented the clothing in real life. As much as I love the hats I found it hard to imagine them looking good on anyone but Lily Donaldson.


John Galliono was next. The array of massive sequins reminded me of fish scales, but in a classy palette of silver, black and ballerina- pink.


This is where my fashion-fangirling kicked in: JC de Castelbajac.
Some of you might recognise his creations from the MTV EMA's of this year, worn by Katy Perry. Unfortunately this is also when the guy in front of me decided to block my view completely with his giant camera with 50 lenses and head, thus some of the shots are a bit shakey/cropped like mad.




John Galliano followed, sadly the models weren't donning the madly elaborate make-up seen at his last show.



Kenzo was really all about the movement of the fabrics, which gave the models an air of class and sophistication in rich, royal colours.



Next up was, my oh my, Gareth Pugh! The leggings were AMAZING up close! I need them in my life. Fullstop.





And last but not least was Giles Deacon. His collection was an odd combo of hobbit chic ( see capes) and red evening dresses, but amazing nonetheless. Just look at the shoes!!!




It would have been absolutely amazing to see all the collections in full! But I truely felt amazed and surprised that I had seen so many talented designers' work in one place, that I could have only otherwise seen by travelling to the fashion weeks across the globe (because that would SO happen..). Floored!

Model behaviour

So today began with a clear mission: sample sales!


First we stopped off at the 'Best of London' designer sale, which happened to take us to a large ambiguous builiding with a massive door and no background music.
There was clothing by Johnathon Saunders, House of Holland, Bex Rox, David David, Erdem, Felder Felder, Poltock and Walsh, Anna Vince, Richard Nicholl and Todd Lynch.
Poltock and Walsh were definately my favourite, and I fell in love with their summer 08 collection and its pastel ruffles which reminded me of macaroons. Yum!

A swift exit and a near collision with Steve Jones from T4 took us across town to Chelsea, which had the most elaborate Pizza Express I had ever seen in my 18 year old life.

After getting lost down a random street and recieving so many 'mini-punches' my arm felt like it was about to drop off we got our game together and found the second sample sale. We climbed a flight of stairs and came to a metal door which was painted terquoise and looked as if it could be holding bags with dollar signs on them and gold bars instead of sample clothes. We buzzed expecting at least a small level of interrogation, but were allowed straight in and lo and behold the 'Rainbow Wave' sample sale!! Unfortunately it looked like the best of the female's stuff had gone by this point, and the Alexander McQueen £10 skirts were nowhere to be seen (boo!). Inside I found dresses covered in pearls, and an array of droopy dresses in a rainbow of colours. Sadly they were outside my price range (£900 +!) but were still very pretty.



Due to a delay in trains on the way back home we were stuck in Waterloo. So what else is a girl to do but get some krispy kreme in on the situation?! So imagine my amazement when I saw these at the stand...

I love Torkil Gudnason's work, and the above fish images I studied for my A level art never cease to amaze me, even now looking back!
I think what makes the photos is that they incorporate the high gloss that so much fashion photography needs these days, but it does so in an unconventional and unexpected way.

Let it snowww


With the news that there is snow at home (though I don't expect it to be more than the usual thick rainy mush we usually get in Yorkshire), I couldn't post about an artist other than Walter Martin and Paloma Munoz!

Their recent 'Travellers' series depicts tiny scenes within snowglobes. When I was younger, one of my friends used to get one of those massive, heavy Disney snowglobes every Christmas and I was jelous no end. You could look at the intricate details for hours! The fact that they are there purely for decorate purposes and that they were too heavy to even lift and shake sold me even more!
I'm definately seeing a Walker influence in this one...




Apart from the pure skill that must be involved in creating the intricate detail of these pieces, I really love the nostalgic value they have.
They also seem to envoke a sense of serenity and quietness which reminds me of a crisp winter evening...
